April 30 to May 1. Parent/Child Campout at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Cook out and camp out. Sleep under the stars!  All ages. Cost is $35/Family/YMCA members and $50 non-members.

May 5 and 19. Teen Open Mic Night. 7:00-9:00 p.m. Whether you are an experienced group that loves to play in front of people or a new musician that wants to try something new this is a great way to show your talent. Contact the Morrison Family YMCA to reserve your time slot.

May 14. Parent’s Night Out. 6:00 to 9:30 p.m.. Enjoy an evening out while your children are having fun at the Y.  $15/YMCA Members and $20/Non-members. Registration is required.

May 11. Farm Fresh Vegetarian cooking class. 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Join us in this cooking class to learn great vegetarian dishes for the summer. $20/YMCA Members and $35/Non-members. Registration is required.

May 14. Morrison Family YMCA Waterpark Opens.

May 14. Run! Ballantyne 10K/5K Race and 1-Mile Fun Run 10K/5K. Race begins at 7:30 a.m. and Fun Run begins at 9:00 a.m. Register online here.

May 14. Adult Art Workshop 4:00-7:00 p.m. $30/YMCA Members and $50/Non-members. Every 2nd Saturday of the month for in-depth workshops featuring Y-art staff and guest instructors. Portrait painting, sculpture, papermaking, and fabric arts.

May 16. Take a trip to Greece. 6:30-8:00 p.m. Explore Greek cuisine. Learn recipes. $20/YMCA Members and $35/Non-members. Registration is required.

May 19. Ask the Physical Therapist. 8:00-10:00 a.m.. Ask a physical therapist any questions you have regarding knee or back pain. Free for the community.

May 21. Princess Tea Party. 2:00-3:30 p.m.. You and your child will enjoy being together in this fun princess cooking class. $30/YMCA Members and $45/Non-members. Registration is required.

May 21. Middle School Madness. 7:00-10:30 p.m.. Middle schoolers can join friends for a fun night without parents in a safe environment. Activities include a dance with music by SoundBiz DJ Service, basketball, a Dodgeball tournament, video games and hang-out time with friends in the Rachel Giblin Teen Center. Pizza and concessions will be sold as well. $5/YMCA Members and $7/Non-members.

May 21. Go Green Art Workshop. 4:00-5:30 p.m. for ages 6-8 years and 5:30-7:00 p.m. for ages 9-12 years. Register your child for this fun hands-on art workshop that shows how art can give back to the earth. $20/YMCA Members and $35/Non-members.

May 24 and 25. Adult/Child/Infant CPR, First Aid, AED Full Certification. 6:00-9:00 p.m.. The Morrison Family YMCA now offers CPR classes to the community through the Red Cross Preparedness program. Cost is $70.

May 25. Cooking with Herbs. 6:30-8:00 p.m.. Kick up your flavor without adding extra calories. This cooking class will focus on using herbs in everyday cooking to add flavor. $20/YMCA Members and $35/Non-members. Registration is required.

May 25. Nutrition 101. 5:30 p.m. FREE class. Wellness specialist will teach you the basic building blocks for eating intelligently every day.

The local La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries Trade-in Event benefitting Assistance League Charlotte is going on and will continue until May 9th. Donate gently used furniture (or make a $25 donation to charity) to receive a discount on a new furniture purchase. La-Z-Boy collects the furniture and monetary donations which are then given to Assistance League Charlotte. Since the trade-in program began in 2006, La-Z-Boy has collected nearly $80,000 for local charities and delivered 38 tractor-trailer loads of gently used merchandise.

Dogs/Cats for Adoption News

The PAWS in The Panhandle Rescue & Adoption Group Thrift Store is open in the Zimmer Business Park on Marvin Road in Indian Land. Directions: Turn onto Marvin Road directly in front of Aldi on Highway 521. In 7 tenths of a mile, turn left into Zimmer Business Park and follow road straight into the Park until you come to building 7 on your left. The facility is located at the end of building 7 in warehouse #737. Donations can be dropped off at the store or call (803) 371-0897 for pick-up. All donations are tax-deductible. Purchases help PAWS reach its goal of building a true “no-kill” shelter in Indian Land.
