Aldi sales above average at Indian Land Store

With a whopping new Wal Mart just minutes away and with any number of new and established competitors in the market, the Ballantyne market would seem tough for a new store. But after a year in business, sales at Aldi are above the national average according to an area retail specialist.

The store primarily offers its own brand of…well…just about everything from ketchup to chocolate. For most items, Aldi relies on national brands to produce its store brands. However, chocolate comes from its factory in Belguim. The same factory that supplies Trader Joe’s. What goes around comes around!
Take a tour of Aldi here.

Apex Performance helps NFL kicker get to the Pro Bowl

Billy Cundiff has had a record year as the field goal kicker for the Baltimore Ravens. He made the Pro Bowl and tied the NFL record for 40 touchbacks in a season. Cundiff was also 26 for 29 in field goal attempts. He has been working with Dr. Louis Csoka, the founder of Apex Performance based in Ballantyne.  Dr. Csoka is a former Army Ranger and retired Colonel who also founded the Performance Enhancement Center at West Point. Dr. Csoka has also worked with other NFL kickers and quarterbacks. He has trained  several golfers, including Charlotte’s Corey Nagy.

Apex Performance is also the lead adviser for the US Army. The mental skills training is currently used in nine Army bases helping soldiers to be their best under extreme conditions.  Apex Performance has also set up two centers to help wounded veterans in Florida and San Antonio.

The new frontier is for business leaders to use mental training for their own personal performance and leadership. For more information, go here.

Salutations in Ballantyne Village Moves in New Direction.

Salutations has announced a new direction for the new year.

President and chief style officer Holly Bretschneider says that, going forward, the product selection process for Salutations will be based on a framework known as the “triple bottom-line” of “People, Planet and Profits.” As of January 1, 2011, any new product or line brought into Salutations must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Positively impact people through economic empowerment, education, and/or enhanced quality of life for a community.
  • Positively impacts the planet by being eco-friendly and employing sustainable manufacturing practices
  • Contributes a portion of profits in a meaningful way to at least one cause that makes one of the above positive impacts.

In addition, a percentage of Salutations’ annual profits will be contributed to two charities.

  • Wine to Water. The mission of the charitable organization is to provide access to clean water in developing countries.
  • Room to Read founded by ex-Microsoft executive John Wood, whose mission is to transform the lives of millions of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education.
Salutations was founded in Chapel Hill in 2002 and opened its Ballantyne Village location in 2006.
